Life With Boys

In today’s installment, we come upon a scene, a very active one, ripe with the heady excitement of boys at play. I share a small snippet of the conversation:
NM: We need central power!
J: I found a dollar.
NM (delivered with great emphasis): We need central power!
J: I have a dollar…
NM (great urgency, eerily like Captain Kirk, an unknown to the speaker): You don’t understand! This chip will break with no power!
J: But, my dollar!
There are times when I really hate to get school started, and this was one of them. How could two entirely different trains of thought somehow melt into one conversation and allow them to play together cohesively?
This sort of thing went on for a good, long while. Somehow, my admonition to put all the game board pieces back into the game box even became part of their play (it had something to do with restoring power to the chip, it was technical, I didn’t ask).
I love being a mom, not just to boys, but these two in particular whose imaginations are incredibly rich!
