Tired!

Did I take pictures? NO! Boo me. That’s ok, I’ll just write all about it for you.

Let’s set the scene: Sunday, late in the day. The weather is warm and just the right amount of humidity. The combination of warm temperatures and overcast skies just screamed: go take a hike! If that scream didn’t convince us, the sights of the impending explosion of spring everywhere would have.

Our cast: the boys + one friend from church, R + parents’ friends from church, E+LB. I almost forgot, we also had Sprocket. We headed out to Upper Shoal Creek trail.

We brought our letterboxing gear to give our hike a purpose. We did find two of letterboxes and we introduced our friends to the hobby. Will it stick? We’ll have to see but we hope so.

The best part wasn’t finding the boxes but rather getting to watch the boys playing. They were enjoying a lot of the fun things my parents would let us do that would send my grandpa into fits. Things like climbing on rocks, trees, swinging sticks at trees, stuff like that.

Sprocket enjoyed meeting a lot of new dogs, too. She was heeling pretty well today though she still was difficult to bring down several notches and is not really comfortable being calm at all–those moments are brief.

We had lots and lots of fun. Spring is definitely antsy about happening because it’s dropping so many hints.

~ Red bud trees in bloom
~ Cardinals (and lots of other birds) playing free concerts at Shoal Creek
~ Texas Mountain Laurels blooming
~ Bluebonnets shooting buds
~ Yellow daisies blooming on the side of the freeway
~ Blooms, buds and tiny leaves breaking out of once-bare branches

…and in our own home: we’re up to Day Three of our caterpillars’ pupae stage. In 5-7 days, we’ll be seeing butterflies. I think, in honor of Spring, our next scripture memory verse will be:

“Therefore, if anyone [is] in Christ, [he is] a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.” 2Cr 5:17
