Of Teeth and Sleep

On Monday afternoon, NM had a lip bumper installed into his mouth. It’s very similar to a retainer, but instead of pushing his teeth, this appliance trains his lip to curl properly when he swallows. The orthodontist explained that part of the reason why his bottom teeth turn inward is that his bottom lip curls in when he swallows. Over time, that’s exaggerated his overbite.

Well, the brackets in the teeth hurt him pretty badly. He wasn’t happy about it at all and wanted them removed. Understandable! My hubby said he remembers how bad the pain was when he had braces. So, all things considered, he’s doing well. They said it would take about 24 hours for the gums’ swelling to stop which seems to be the case and within a week or so, he’ll be used to the brackets being there.

He did have a meal last night (roast beef sandwich) and this morning he had some puff pancake. Yay!

Sleep. Well, we’re at another I-can’t-sleep stage for J. This time, I’m not so sure what spooked him, but he’s afraid of the dark all over again. Not that I mind an excuse to snuggle with him, but I’d rather he be emotionally comfortable, you know what I mean? Maybe we just have too much fun whispering in the dark about Jojo or his blinds or something?
