Road Trip!

This post is a bit heavy on the photos…just so’s you know. They’re tiny so that it makes you want to go look at the bigger versions over here on Flickr.
Fall is looming—again—and so hubby was feeling the impending loss of our free Saturdays. Loss? To soccer games, of course. He decided he would skip the monthly men’s breakfast at church so that we could all go driving. Just anywhere.
So we did.
We remembered to bring our swimming gear, water, snacks, Sprocket and a bowl for her.
I thought it might be nice to go north, but the main attraction, a nature reserve, didn’t allow pets so we headed towards Wimberley.
We like Wimberley. It’s kinda quirky. We saw things like this:
And when we were walking along the creek bed we saw things like this:
But it was also beautiful. The trees were amazing and awfully good for shade.
The boys enjoyed the unusual trees.
Yes, the “run from the camera” game looks to be gearing up at this point. The adults got a bit tired and we decided to let the kids (who really wanted to go rock climbing) run around in the park. I think they were retaliating against our position because the “run from the camera” game got serious.
J tried to run…
NM tried to run…
But the camera caught their smiles anyway!
We couldn’t really enjoy the Wimberley shops because we had Sprocket with us. So we decided to keep on driving. We found our way to a road that led to Blanco and that sounded interesting so we took it.
We somehow ended up in Canyon Lake. The water was amazing!
And we had our swimming gear. Because we remembered! However, we didn’t bring food. And our tummies were asking for food, not swimming. So we kept driving.
We didn’t find anything interesting to eat in Canyon Lake but we found the Guadalupe River.
And maybe next Saturday we’ll go tubing because that looked like so much fun. The water was amazing.
So we kept driving. And driving. We stumbled upon New Braunsfels and, yes, the kids saw a sign for Schlitterbahn but that’s as close as we got to the water park even though the kids knew there was food there.
We wound our way towards San Marcos instead. Our very late lunch at Carl’s Jr. was great! Although hubby’s didn’t sit well with him. But the kids enjoyed it and they had a blast.
After lunch, we stopped at Best Buy so we could get a copy of Bolt to watch that evening. I love that movie. It looks so pretty on our tv!
