To the Alamo!

Hubby decided to make this weekend go from three- to five-day time off for fun. Fun! He wanted to head down to San Antonio, so we did. Poor Sprocket stayed behind, but our neighbors came by to take some of our pea gravel and took her home, too. She loves them all over again. So…off to San Antonio!
Our first stop, after finding parking:
No surprise, right? Not long before, the boys were asking me to go back to the Alamo so they could see the guns and knives. There were quite a few of those. And some amazing trees and flowers.
I’m a huge fan of old, gnarly, twisty-branched trees.
Not something we expected to see: a Tea Party! We’d come across Glenn Beck and his group’s tea party at their Alamo stop. It was all about Big Issues, yes, but I couldn’t help but enjoy the creativity with the banners.
And yes, my hubby did buy a Gadsen Flag. The boys really didn’t want to be at a “protest” but we explained to them it was good for them to see that we live somewhere that this kind of free speech and assembly is allowed. It’s good to be able to protest against or for something or someone! They did relax after a bit, most noticeably after the crowd sang a song or two.
After lunch at Subway (boys) and Fuddrucker’s (hubby and I), we did the River Walk cruise. There was lots of pretty. To be honest, after a little bit of the cruise, I stopped paying attention…it was getting hot! But still…

Saint Anthony of Padua, for whom San Antonio is named.

There’s so much more over here. Yes, there are pictures of my boys
After the cruise, we really didn’t do much more. Well, I wanted to but the rest of the crew was done. That time in the direct sun in the heat of the day sure did everyone in, myself included even though it didn’t hit me then. Still and all, it was a great day and we did have loads of fun.
