Looking Forward

Last weekend was a trip to soccermomhood. There were three games on Saturday. Two wins and one loss led to two more games on Sunday. I missed the first game and heard NM played really well, the best another dad had ever seen him play (oh I do hope that our prayer time before he left had something to do with it)!
The last game on Sunday was fun to watch. They played a team that had no losses and tied them allllll the way to the end of the game.
At the last minute, one of the boys made it all the way to the goalie box and was going to kick it in but a member of the opposing team managed to kick him in the diaphragm. I think that’s where he got kicked because that’s what he was clutching when he was doubled over. All the boys were shooed away by the ref who gave the boy a free kick. It made it in.
The other team’s coach wanted to do a round of free kicks but our coach said no. They won fair and square, literally three seconds before the ref blew the whistle to signal the end of the game.
We all headed to a local restaurant, Hula Hut, for the end-of-season party. Yes, it was great and yes, the following week we were reminded why we have ourselves on a strict diet. But that’s ok, it’s only once in a while and it was very much worth it.
On to the “Forward” Thing
Tomorrow, the boys were supposed to be playing in the regional championships but the fields were closed due to rain. My boy is most disappointed! Note this: he rather we cancel his birthday party, planned for Sunday, so that he could play in the games. Cancel, we did. It looks like they’re going to try and pack Saturday’s games into Sunday somehow. We will be missing the games that are scheduled for the morning but be there for the afternoon ones.
More looking ahead: family arrives tomorrow night. YAY for a happy Thanksgiving! Also? We have a 20 lb. bird in the freezer. 20 lbs., people! I cannot emphasize enough how much I love turkey dinners. Taking the leftovers and turning them into hash or casserole or whatever is just a sacrilege. Seriously. I don’t get tired of turkey dinners but maybe that’s just because I don’t ever get it any other time of year. Maybe we ought to change that.
