Mary Moore Searight Park

Last Sunday, we had to bid goodbye to hubby for a week. He’s still gone, not coming home until tomorrow. But since we had an afternoon open and we’d spent too much time indoors, we braved the cold (to us it was very cold) and went on a hike to a nearby park.

Mary Moore Searight Park is quite large, but you’d never guess when driving by the street that takes you there. I can’t get over how close to home fun places like this one are.

I have no idea how many hiking trails the park has, but we picked one near our parking spot. Off we went!

We were surprised to find a little ice covering much of the surface of a little stream under some shady trees.

Someone was particularly excited…

Doesn’t it look like glass?

It was pretty thick which was surprising considering the time. Maybe it just didn’t get any time in the sun or we wouldn’t get to see chunks this big:

Yes, this was hard to photograph. C-c-c-c-c-old!

I got the boys spurred on and back to the reason we came: hiking. Off we went! We saw this really cool tree house, technically an observation platform I guess.

That’s just one reason I covet large trees on others’ properties!

It was really a pretty time of day. Though it was cold, we didn’t mind the temps at all.

off at a brisk pace

It does help if you run. NM has learned that’s how he can keep the puppy heeling. She has to learn to keep up with him! Sometimes, though, he has to turn her over to me so they can explore more freely.

I am still in search of “the” image with just the right kind of sun beams peeking through tree tops.

No, they couldn’t resist playing “run and hide from the camera” but they don’t mind so much when they’re caught.

so funny

We had to spend a few more minutes at the frozen stream. The boys were hoping to go skating along it. Oh boy. I let them stand on it instead if they were to make sure not to get their shoes wet. Not that I don’t want them to have fun, but they only have a pair of shoes each that they like to wear. With the weather we’re having, there’s no guarantee they’d dry quickly!

But boys can’t resist doing the twist, apparently.

The puppy also had a good time, of course. The park seemed to be very popular with dog owners. But all good times must come to an end; say g’bye, boys!
